Who are notaries and why are they needed?
Every notary public is a lawyer, but not every lawyer is a notary public.
Notaries are public officials who provide services that we all need from time to time.
In Latvia the number of notaries is limited by the law. At the moment there are only 108 of them. Therefore notaries are usually very busy and it is not always easy to get an appointment as soon as your needs require.
Also, it is not always obvious which document is needed from the notary and how it should be drawn up. One common example is powers of attorney, of two types: private and in the form of a notarial deed.
